Nightlife and Bars in Goa

One thing that is omniscient when you are having your holidays in Goa is its various bars! For an Indian state, Goa is quite liberal with its alcoholism. The policy is that if you do not trouble others with your alcoholic habit, you are fine! Of course, things like driving under influence and drunken revelry are looked upon quite strictly by the authorities. But if you want to just party with your drink, you are most welcome.

You will find small and big bars everywhere here. In fact, don't be surprised if you don't find a place that doesn't offer drinks during your holidays in Goa! The highest density of bars is on the fringes of Goa's most popular beaches such as Vaga, Anjuna, Vagator, Calangute, Porvorim, Colva, etc. Also, if you are in these bars, do try out the cashew feni, Goa's own liquor. But be warned – this one is not for the weak-hearted!

Nightlife is most abundant on the beaches, especially Anjuna and Calangute. These places are most highly frequented by foreigners and have high security arrangements. The music accompaniment is usually Goa's own form of psychedelic music known as Goan trance. But there are also various other vernacular forms of music such as the Konkani Koli (fishermen) songs. The idea is to just let your hair loose and have fun.

Bars will usually close by 11 pm, the official time here. Nightclubs may keep open longer, depending on the kinds of permits they have. You have to make sure you have transportation from these places to your hotel in advance though.
